Brouwerij Het Anker Lucifer - Mechelen, Belgium
in Belgian Pale, Amber, and Golden Ales
When Liefmans Breweries went bankrupt, Lucifer fell into hands of brewery Duvel Moortgat. Lucifer was launched by former brewery Riva as a strong blond ale in the early '80s. As Moortgat was concentrating on the fruit beers of Liefmans, Lucifer was doomed to disappear. Both brewery Duvel Moortgat and brewery Het Anker thought that this would be a waste of the Belgian beer-tradition and came to an agreement. Het Anker obtained the rights to produce and sell Lucifer.
Lucifer, as the name might suggest, is similar to Duvel. A Belgian golden, it has sweet malt and a light fruitiness on the nose. The flavor is quite delicate, with a nice bready sweetness up front, a light fruitiness throughout, and long dry finish.
